“Space, the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It’s five year mission: to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldy go where no man has gone before!” With these words, Gene Roddeberry created a phenomenon that has swept the world, and created a fandom that is fiercely loyal. After numerous movies and TV shows, the franchise is getting a new start with a new movie May 8th. The movie will bring back the celebrated original crew, but with some twists. The crew will meet technically before they were supposed to, and be brought aboard the fabled Enterprise before the original series premiered.

When I hear of great comic book artists, I usually hear the same names. You have people like: Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita, Gil Kane, John Buscema, Barry Windsor-Smith, Jim Lee and the list can go on and on. One name I don’t recall ever hearing in the annals on great comic book artists is that of Joe Shuster, the co-creator and artist who helped bring us Superman.

Written by Stan Lee and with subtle artwork of Jack Kirby, Xmen came in to existence. In the original animated series of X Men, it was only 5 men army, and with time, as the series evolved, so did the characterization. The original characters that formed the solid base of X-Men force mutants included Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast and Jean Grey.

The basic premise of these first issues concerns the birth of about 43 children by women who weren’t pregnant! There isn’t a whole lot of explanation to this occurrence. 7 of the children are immediately adopted by Millionaire inventor Reginald Hargreeves who informs the world that the children he adopted will save it one day. From here it doesn’t take much time for the book to enter into the children’s adult lives. One lives on the moon, he has been transformed into a sort of Ape Man with ape arms and feet! He is called Space.

“Die Laughing” is not an ordinary book dealing with how to handle grief, but a tongue in cheek unusual approach to looking at death.
