The Golden Age of comic books is thought of as the period from the late 1930s and ending in the late 1940s or a little beyond. These 10 cent escapes from reality were welcomed entertainment for most pre-boomers, even though moms generally discouraged them in favor of real books. The world of comic books got a boost recently when it was announced that one of the few remaining original copies of the first issue of Superman from 1938 sold for a cool one million bucks.

Graphic novels have gotten more widespread day-to-day seeing that they still traverse into mainstream films and revel in mass merchandising revenues. Back during the 30’s this was standard operating method as comics blended with radio to cross advertise products to children and grownups alike. Superman, Batman as well as Captain Marvel crisscrossed amid radio shows and color comics for decades.
The search for top 100 best Marvel villains of all time can be compared to an epic journey. The initial idea was to come up with a top 10 list. A top 10 list was quickly thrown away because limiting this list to 10 would be an injustice. The top 10 transitioned to a top 25, then to a top 50, then it was clear a top 100 was needed due to the sheer number of villains to choose from. Marvel villains are epic and we needed to create a list equally epic.
